Located along Weston Lane, you’ll find ample parking and it’s less than a 3 minute walk from Rooty Hill station. I believe A-Team’s Kitchen has been at the current location for 2+ years, however have re-branded and re-named the restaurant. I liked the relaxed feel, simple interior reminiscent of food eateries in the Philippines.

Specialising in authentic Filipino meals, desserts and has a coffee-maker for coffee lovers! I would have loved to taste their own version/creation of taho. The mass-produced taho lacked in sweetness and freshness. Though can’t complain, it melds well after a heavy feed. You will find all the classics here, from rice meals, main dishes and BBQ meat sticks! It was glossing in oil and surprisingly it didn’t taste oily at all, it was sweet and tender. Just scroll through the glorious food below, try not to drool.

Averagely priced, it has positioned itself as an ultimate food stop, when you’re craving for that comfort food! I highly recommend their turon, it was amazing! Sweet whilst being soft inside and it’s a decent size. A-Team’s Kitchen is the type of restaurant you’d come back to again and again.

Jambo Jambo is an Ethiopian restaurant, serving cuisines that are normally served in Ethiopia. Don’t be fooled with the size of the place, because it actually goes all the way back, accomodating to small-large groups comfortably. The interior was beautifully lavished with colour, quite entertaining actually, seeing works I believe was from Ethiopia and other parts of Africa.

The menu is filled with meat and vegetarian options, meat such as lamb, beef, goat and chicken. There’s actually quite a bit of items that are spicy or hot, which I think really makes their dishes come alive. We ordered the Jambo Course, which allowed us to choose up to 3 dishes, comes with a mixed entree and dessert afterwards. I found this super interesting and enjoyable, got to use our hands to break off chapati and fill it with our chosen meats! I highly recommend you ordering this, which is perfect for 2 people.

Service was quick, efficient, explained what items we had and I recommend you asking the team for recommendations if it’s your first time. The owner came out and kindly checked up on all the customers dinning, which I found was lovely. I’d love to come back, maybe with a larger group next time!

Burger Head

I just love when Western Sydney picks up its food game! When this little gem opened up, offering burgers, chips, beer, tasty beef  and ample seating, I was super excited. The feel of burger point is similar to food establishments you would find in the CBD, however its menu definitely considers the crowd out west.

I did forget what I ordered, so I’ll give you a general idea of what they offer. You will find 4 basic yet scrumptious sides to start your meal, such as their mash and gravy, crispy tenders, shoe string fries and their liquid cheese. I found their gravy ok, it is more on the lighter tasting side with more mash. I do remember the burger I had was definitely satisfying, the bun used was soft which just paired smoothly with the filling. The beef was done perfectly, was juicy and *sigh* just good. Loved the shoe string fries for sure! You can add extras if you need a bit more and they have smaller burgers for the kiddies.

Burgers are priced from $15-$18 and sides from $4-$8. Food came out within 5-8 minutes, mind you the time we went, it was pretty packed. Make sure to bring your ID if you plan to buy a beer or two.

Potts Point Hotel

A local pub in Potts Point, that I believe has undergone a recent renovation. The interior looks classy, with the timeless leather booths, dark-moody palette but at the same time there’s plenty of sunshine flooding in.

We booked ahead, because who knows, it might get busy. Stepped into the hotel, a was greeted with a lazy, laid-back atmosphere. It was great! Can eat in peace, people watch, enjoy our company. The service was quick, we didn’t have to wait long for our orders to be made and then be served.

I ordered the $21 crispy pork belly, which looked as juicy and tender as the picture below. The crisp, was not too firm and dry, just the right comfortable balance. It was accompanied with a watercress, radicchio, grapes and pecan salad, which complimented tastefully with the pork belly. I wonder what the sauce was, just because it was the perfect pairing! The other dish was the rump steak which, first off gives you a generous amount, was average in taste. Nothing too special, though is a great feed when you want something easy for your stomach. On the side, the mac and cheese was ordered, a bit runny and I forgot the other. I think it was toasted bread, which E found was a bit burnt. I love pickles, so the ones that were served was delish!

Right on the popular and ever bustling town of Byron Bay, you won’t miss it, is Balcony. Make sure to book prior and request to have a seat on the balcony.

After going up a flight of stairs, you will be greeted by a beautiful open floor setting, white rustic furniture and busy waitstaff. The place is filled with beachgoers, laid back but trendy diners, either celebrating a day out on the beach, a birthday or a social gathering! I went during dinner, just when the sun was setting, so it was oozing with bright colours but with a romantic touch.

Balcony’s menu offers a wide selection of oysters, seasonal flavours,  tapas, salads, charred and bone pieces, lamb, crab… just check out their menu here.They serve during breakfast, lunch and dinner. We got ourselves some oysters, which was delish by the way! Ordered their broccolini, chicken lollipops, cauliflower popcorn and the salt cod croquettes. By the time we got our new york cheesecake and coconut sago, we were overly satisfied.

I’d say overall the food items were done right, it was all tasty and not overly oily or fried. It was a perfect balance of softness and crispy. I now look back and wonder, gosh we ordered way too many fried items. If we were to go back, I’d try their lamb shoulder or crispy skinned ocean trout! The most memorable is their oysters and the sauces that came with it. Their cheesecake lacked unfortunately the “cheesiness”, was a bit over it after 3 bites.

Food and drinks were served on time, the setting was tastefully done and shout out to our waitstaff that night Jay! Do try their cocktails, nothing beats cocktails after a day exploring the area.

Kusuka

An Indonesian fusion cafe, operates 6 days a week with long hours (7:00 – 19:30). The quickest way to get there, is to jump off Town Hall and  it should only take 10 minutes to get there!

The interior is instagram worthy, with tasty pinks and cream and make sure to check out the quote on their wall. It is a cosy spot, so make sure to get in there early or out of rush hours. Unfortunately when I visited, their air-conditioning was not running so had to brunch in the humidity. This however did not lessen my excitement for their dishes! What makes them unique is their fusion of Indonesian and Western food. Try their Superbowls, which has one layer of tasty Mi Goreng and another layer of pork belly, sausages, herbed corn, melted cheese and corned beef. The cravings are real! There are other items that will certainly entice you for a second or third visit.

Service was lovely and quick! Make sure to take a snap or two, as their interior and food presentation calls out for a snap or two. I have a feeling I’ll be back.

Red Pepper

Located inside Strathfield’s Sports Club, you will find an abundance of seating area, inside and in its courtyard. Generously lit with plenty  of sunlight, you could be sitting here for a good 1-2 hours, devouring down on their fried chickens!

They have a wide selection of tasty fried chickens to choose from, from memory about 10-12 different toppings can be selected. I do appreciate that you can have the boneless option, for an added $2-3 from the large portion. You can choose whether you want the regular or large portion. We got the creamy onion chicken, which was definitely creamy and had plenty of onions to top it off! The topping did however just sat on top, which for some people they don’t mind that, but I like when the sauce is absorbed. This was on the more sweeter side, which complimented the fried chicken. E then proceeded to get the hot and spicy gangjung. I don’t know how this tasted, because I stay away from spicy food, but I do remember E enjoyed this quite a bit!

Service was great, efficient and speedy! You do get the sides as well, though it is less traditional and less in portion, compared to when visiting Korean restaurants/BBQ. There’s a cafe right next to Red Pepper, if you fancy yourself a coffee or fruit drink. I do remember seeing some tasty cakes too!
